Welcome to our classroom web page! This year our classroom is made up of 16 students. We have 9 Grade One students and 7 Grade Two students. Our Language Arts program is based on the Four Blocks of Literacy; Guided Reading, Self-Selected Reading, Word Work, and Writing. We have center time daily which incorporates all aspects of the Language Arts Program, as well as guided reading groups. Many parts of the Language Arts program includes a monthly theme. Parents are reminded that your child will be taking new Home Reading books home once a week. (This will begin in the middle of the month.) This is a great opportunity for you and your child to read together! Also, your child will have a weekly spelling test at the end of each week. The words are always sent home each Monday. Our Math program this year involves daily calendar activities which covers numerous learning outcomes from the number concept strand in the Math Curriculum. We also work regularly in our Math Journals which incorporates representing a given number in a wide variety of ways. We will also cover all learning outcomes from the new Math Curriculum throughout the year. The first unit we will work on this year is "Patterns". Our first Science unit this year will be called "Characteristics and Needs of Living Things". Stay tuned for more! Mrs. E. Loewen
