Life Skills

The Life Skills and Resource rooms are located directly across from the canteen and in those rooms a variety of programs are offered.

The Life Skills program is designed to foster student development in attitudes, desires, interpersonal skills, and knowledge necessary for entry into the occupational and general life of the community insofar as it is possible.

Students work towards developing the skills that will enable them to participate actively and meaningfully in the community. Elton students, along with visiting students from other schools, participate in the Life Skills Program.

As well as the Life Skills Program, we offer school initiated courses: Skills for Success in School at the Grade 9 and 10 levels, and Skills for Success-Getting Ready at the Grade 11 and 12 levels.

The Skills for Success in School course is designed to provide students with tools and strategies to promote success in the high school community. The Skills for Success-Getting Ready course moves beyond the high school setting and focuses on preparing students for a successful transition into independent living and vocational opportunities in the community.

The Life Skills unit also provides an alternate workspace for individuals or small groups of students to work either independently or under the direction of an educational assistant.

The Resource teacher invites students experiencing academic difficulties to visit the Life Skills Unit to discuss their concerns and to access the supports available to them.
