Athletics Philosophy

All classes at Forrest Elementary School take part in a regular physical education program (at least 3-4 classes per cycle). We stress a multiple activity approach where students work on a variety of skills and activities. As well, we place strong emphasis on basic movement skills (K-4) and basic sport skills (Gr. 5-8). Optimal preparation for gym class includes proper footwear (running shoes with non-marking soles) and gym clothes (t-shirt, shorts or sweats and deodorant-5-8). Grade 7 & 8 students are required to change for each gym class. Students in Grade 5 & 6 are encouraged to change and students in Grades K-4 need only to have proper footwear.

Students in Grade 7 & 8 have the opportunity to participate in Divisional Jr. High Sports that include soccer, volleyball, basketball, curling, badminton, track and field, and softball. The focus is on participation, sportsmanship, and the learning of some sport skills associated with lifetime sports.
