The overall purpose of counselling, like teaching, is to maximize the learning potential of all students in the school system.  The high school counselling philosophy operates upon the basic assumption that adolescents who feel capable and worthwhile will gain the maximum benefit from their school experience.  The counsellor is able to provide a personalized service by taking the individual needs and circumstances of each student into account.  The counsellor also provides teachers and parents with assistance in optimizing the development of the adolescents in their care.
