During the course of the grade 10 year, our students will go onto an internet based computer program called "Career Cruising" (www.careercruising.com). This program will ask a number of career related questions and will then give the students a list of possible career choices based on their interests. This program also shows the students the requirements needed for the career of their choice, other related careers, and a general wage structure to be expected. We feel this is a very valuable program for our students at this age. Grade 10 students are faced with having to make decisions as to which maths to take, which sciences are required, and which extra electives they will benefit from. The Career Cruising computer program will give them direction, and provide some insight, and aid our students in making informed choices to their academic needs.

After completion of the above mentioned program, our Grade 10 students will attend the Brandon Career Symposium (www.career-symposium.ca) held in the beginning of March every year. Our students will be exposed to over 120 different exhibitors from Manitoba, Canada and the U.S.A., they can visit informative, interactive displays, attend speaker sessions and meet with representatives in business and education to discover career and educational paths for ongoing growth and development.

There will also be a reflective assignment to do after attending the symposium. This will encourage the students to keep the focus of their future goals, education paths, and career choices in mind.
During this year ongoing work will also be continued in the development of their portfolios. Students are reminded that they can bring in certificates, volunteer badges, pictures of their accomplishments and interests to the Career Development & Explorations Office, so that they may be incorporated into their final portfolio that is due in Grade 12. (for a complete outline of the portfolio work and assignment please view and follow the link provided below).
New for the 2008/09 school year:
Our grade 10 students will all have an opportunity to participate in two Career Preparation Work Experiences. As per our changes made to the program; our grade 10 students will now be part of this important work placement aspect of our program. We feel that this will be a positive and rewarding time for the students and are looking forward to placing the students in their preferred areas of interest.
