Grade 9Grade 9 Grade 10 Grade 11 Grade 12

Our grade 9 students will be participating in the "Take Our Kids to Work" event.  This event is a nation wide event occurring annually all across Canada on the Wednesday of National Career Week, which always takes place the first Wednesday of November.

Our students participate in this day as part of the commitment of our school and school division to the Career Development and Explorations Program.  The participation in this day will, and participation in the following years will result in a credit at the grade 12 level.

Take Your Kid to Work Day- the purpose of this program is to give the students the opportunity to explore the world of work in a supportive and positive manner.  It provides the students insight to the value of your work (as a parent), relate to a career, and to make a connection with their parents through common ground.  This program also allows the students discover, in a positive way, the links between what and how they do in school and their futures.  The experience encourages students to think about their choices they will have to make, and the path they must follow to meet their future career goals.  the students are required to fill out a personal reflection page upon completion of this day.

With your help and support as a parent, this will be another positive step on the student's road to self-discovery and a practical beginning to their career exploration process.

During this event a great deal of focus and energy is spent on the understanding of safety issues in the work place.  It has become increasingly apparent that students entering the work force are not as aware of the health and safety issues surrounding their work, as well as the rights they have as employees in the work place.  With this in mind all of our grade 9 students will be attending the "Safe Workers of Tomorrow" presentation to talk, learn and be informed of these growing issues.  These presentations prior to "Take Your Kids to Work" day.

Another aspect our grade 9 students will be introduced to is the ongoing and continues work of their portfolios.  Grade 9 students will be introduced to the concept and value of having a portfolio.  They will then move onto introductions to resumes and cover letters as well as some future goal setting.  These portfolios will be kept at school and will be an ongoing learning process with the final product being handed in in grade 12.  If there are certificates, pictures or any other items our students wish to add to their portfolios, they can bring them in to the Career Development & Explorations office located in the west end of MCI.  For more information on our portfolio work click on the link below.
