Technology as a Foundation Skill

The TFS Model is an initiative of Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth that builds on the framework of Technology as a Foundation Skill Area: A Journey Toward Information Technology Literacy 1998. It incorporates promising practices from the current work of:

  • K-8 classroom teachers
  • Manitoba school divisions
  • Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth
  • educational researchers

The development and implementation of TFS - A Model for Implementation will result in:

  • a clear explanation of student information and communication technology (ICT) literacy that will be understood by students, teachers, and parents
  • a developmental continuum of how K-8 students can learn and think critically and creatively with ICT including snapshots at grades 2, 4, 6, 8
  • teacher access to professional learning related to ICT integration with curricular outcomes
  • improved student literacy with ICT and use of ICT for learning
  • a parent report on student ICT literacy from K-12
  • parents who are informed about developmentally appropriate student use of ICT

Selected Manitoba educators have been invited to participate in the development team, based on factors such as grade level expertise as well as regional, French, and Aboriginal representation.

Interested educators are invited to participate in the Online Learning Community. This online learning community provides a virtual meeting place where educators can share information, experiences, and resources related to the integration of ICT for teaching and learning. It is a secure environment for learning, sharing, researching, reflecting, collaborating, and communicating about creating a TFS Model for Manitoba educators.
