GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Selection of all courses and levels should be based on student needs, interests and abilities as well as the admission requirements to the post secondary institution and/or work situation to which the student aspires. A student's goals for his or her future should determine the pattern of courses selected.

One full credit is granted for each course completed with 110-120 hours of classroom attendance and study.

A 1/2 credit course requires 55-60 hours.

The Physical Education/Health credit is divided into two credits taken in Grade 9 and Grade 10.

Students may not select courses at the same level such as English 30S and 30G to gain two credits. Nor can a student take courses in which the content overlaps in order to gain additional credits: for example, Physical Science 30G and Physics 30S.

Students may earn a credit for: S tudent I nitiated P rojects, fluency in language other than those taught in school, or a private music option.

Students may be able to graduate early. Accelerated programs which involve full timetables for grade 9 through grade 12 are available to academically successful students. See a counselor for further information.

The Department of Education has tried to implement many changes in the past few years. This has resulted in some confusion regarding the requirements for High School Graduation. Please consult a counsellor when planning your high school program and selecting courses.
