Grade 2/3 students will exchange and study various communities that are a part of our continent - North America.
September - November 2000: classrooms involved in this project will study their own community and plan, design, and implement a binder that meets the curriculum outcomes. Begin to create the project web site with the first link to our Resource Web page being made with the completion of the study of our own community. A survey will have been sent to participating schools to be used as a guide for creating the resources to be included in their binders.
December - January
2001: classrooms will study the first binder that will be sent
to them from one of the participating schools.
My students
will link this community to our Resource Web page when the study of that
community has been completed.
March - April
2001: classrooms will study the second binder that will be sent
to
them from another
one of the participating schools. A link will be made to our resource web
page of this community when we have completed our study.
April - June
2001: classrooms will study the third binder that will be sent
to them from the last of the participating schools. A final link will be
made to our Resource Web page upon the completion of the study of the last
community involved in the project. Our classroom as a group will then evaluate
the project - binders and web pages. From this project, we hope to create
two web pages. A project web page will be designed to include an overview
of the project and its history, a list of participants, registration information,
and a link to the resource site. A second web page will be developed by
the students from information received from various classrooms that can
be accessed by teachers and students as a classroom resource specific to
curriculum.
Example: North American Communities/location/natural resources/history/climate/animals/interesting
features/transportation.
