This year at Elton we are very excited that we have Grade 12 student, Jayden Conway, taking part in the High School Apprenticeship Program. Jayden started working with Allen & Bolack in the summer of 2017. Since starting his position he has been able to claim over 440 Apprenticeship hours which has resulted in him earning 4 High School Credits at the Grade 12 Level. Jayden will continue to work and earn hours towards his Post-Secondary Apprenticeship Program and earn more credits for High School at the same time. Jayden has really enjoyed taking part in this program and feels that participating “is definitely worth it.”
The High School Apprenticeship Program allows students the opportunity for early entry into the trades, on-the-job experience and money in their pocket all while obtaining high school credits. Plus, the hours they collect in the High School Apprenticeship Program can be used towards their Level 1 Post-Secondary Apprenticeship. Students can earn a maximum of 8 High School Credits and for every two credits they earn (220 hours), students will be eligible for a tuition exemption for one level of training (to a max of four levels).
Overall this program benefits students, the school, employers and the community! Did you know that the Conference Board of Canada has predicted that we will need 1 million additional skilled workers by 2020? That’s only 3 years away so we need Apprentices! If you are interested in this exciting opportunity or want to learn more please phone Mrs. Raupers today at 204.728.7676 ext 352.
