Mentorship

The Student Support Facilitator’s role as part of the Student Support Team is to be a liaison between students, teachers, administration, and parents. As an advocate for students, the facilitator works with resource, guidance, and administration, to identify students’ academic, behavioural, and social needs, and to develop an appropriate support strategy and system. The facilitator meets one-to-one with students to provide academic assistance as required and also to discuss social-emotional/behavior difficulties that are impacting upon classroom performance.

PURPOSE

To contribute to the overall goals and objectives of the Rolling River Division by improving opportunities for all young people to fully develop the academic, social and healthy life skills needed to succeed in and transition from high school and to lead productive lives.

The Student Support Facilitators have become mentors to student in Grade 9 to Grade 12, who do not see the importance in school or who do not feel good about how they are progressing in school.

The mentorships that develop between the Student Support Facilitators and the students fill a gap that previously existed in the system.

OBJECTIVE

Overall, the program is meant to provide students with the supports they need to experience success, stay in school, and hopefully become more prepared for life after school.
