Mentorship

The purpose of this program is to provide students with supports in the academics, as well as guide them through a process that will, hopefully, point out to them the connection between school and “real life”. The “Support Team” is made up of the Principal, Resource Teacher and the Student Support Facilitator and Guidance Counsellor.

The SS Facilitators have become mentors to students in grades 7 to Senior 4 who do not see the importance in school, or who do not feel good about how they are progressing in school.

Overall the program is meant to provide students with the supports they need to experience success, stay in school, and become more prepared for life after school. The mentoring strategy is used by SS Facilitators to implement the program and meet the individual needs of students. Mentoring is: a one-to-one relationship; a relationship between two people differing in age; a supportive relationship; directed toward the development or mental growth of the younger member.
