We, at Forrest Elementary School, believe, generally, that students function most effectively in the regular classroom with their peers. Our Resource Teacher is available to help classroom teachers implement programs for students with specific learning needs. She also works with the classroom teacher and the education assistants to plan and develop units of work and to co-teach in the classroom. This will increase the learning opportunities for all students, including those who are in need of enrichment. There is provision made for individual or small group work for students as deemed necessary or appropriate.

The Resource Teacher, at times, administers assessments to students needing evaluation. She also works closely with the division speech/language pathologist to determine appropriate strategies for use with students in the classroom.

The resource department will co-ordinate vision and hearing screening and identify students in the school with very specific learning needs.
