Resource

The Resource Program at Minnedosa Collegiate endeavours to provide support and programming in order for students to be successful learners.

The Role of the Resource Teacher

The resource program in Rolling River School Division promotes the divisional philosophy of inclusion.

The guiding principles of the divisional Special Education policy indicate that the resource teacher “has the responsibility of providing supportive educationally related services for the referred student and his/her teacher who has primary responsibility for programming . The resource teacher is responsible for coordinating services from other members of the support team  The resource teacher may provide the student with direct services in the form of analytic, remedial, developmental, or compensatory teaching or behavioural management. Such services may be conducted in either the regular classroom or in a resource room."  Click here to find out more.

Study Support Bridging Course 11G

This course has been developed for Grade 9 students who will benefit from extra time and attention in core subjects.   Assessment , classroom teacher and parent recommendations are considered by the support team before placement in the course takes place. We believe that building a strong foundation in the study skill area at the beginning of Senior I will be a bridge for the students' academic performance as they continue through senior years. Since these  students require more time in order to be successful in the core area subjects, we believe that a obtaining credits in the area of study skills will support and encourage their progress.

Study Support Credit Course 21G

The program has been developed for students who have completed SSBC 11G and continue to require support in one or more of the core subject areas. Assessment as well as classroom teacher and parent recommendations are considered by the support team before placement in the course takes place.

Community Career Development 11G and 21

MCI will place students throughout the community.  Many students are working as peer tutors in MCI or at Tanner's Crossing.

Modular Learning Program

The Modular Learning Program is designed to address the needs of a variety of students who are at risk of experiencing failure, leaving school before graduation, or being unable to develop the skills that will be necessary for continued education or the workplace.

We presently have a Student Services Program that includes study support courses as well as alternate modified programming both in regular classrooms and small group situations. The Modular Learning program will enhance these existing programs and provide another avenue for those students who require alternate strategies in order to experience success.  Students who qualify for the program are chosen by a committee that  includes administrators, resource teacher, guidance counsellor, STEMS coordinator and classroom teachers. Consultation with parents must be part of the selection process and parents will sign a consent form.

Self-Directed Learning

Minnedosa Collegiate is in the process of offering some courses in a self-directed classroom. As in the Modular Learning Program, self-directed courses will enhance existing programs and provide another avenue for those students who require alternate strategies in order to experience success. Courses will only be offered if staff is available to facilitate them. The availability of self-directed units is presently limited and must be a consideration when making decisions to enrol students in courses. Students will be selected through a similar process as MLP students. Our Student Support Services Team is responsible for making these selections.

In a self -directed classroom, students and teachers work as a team. The teacher leads the student to organize materials, guide students through the units, and be a resource as required throughout the course. The student is responsible for thinking, planning, and production.

Independent Study Program

The Independent Study Option (ISO) provides the opportunity and flexibility for both school age and adult learners to study a wide range of compulsory and optional distance education courses from Grades 1 to 12.
