LANGUAGE ARTS & MATHEMATICS

At all grade levels Language Arts and Mathematics programs follow the New Manitoba Curriculum. Modified or accommodated programs may be provided for students who have difficulty with regular programs in these areas.

SOCIAL STUDIES & SCIENCE

These are regular programs of studies prepared for Manitoba schools.

BASIC FRENCH

Basic French program will be integreated into the core area subjects at the K-1 level.  the exposure program will be offered in grades 2 and 3.  The purpose of the K-3 exposure program will be to provide students with vocabulary exposure through everyday themes to prepare for the grade 4-6 program.

The French program in grades 4 through 6 is based on the Department of Education's 9 year basic course of study and is designed to emphasize communication and oral competency.  The students develop their skills in listening, reading, speaking and writing, within a framework of thematic units based on their own areas of experience:  school, food, clothing, animals, him/herself and others, the media, Canadian identity, holidays and celebrations, physical education, the environment and hobbies and activities.   As part of these units, the students learn the vocabulary, grammatical strucutres and basic expressions necessary to write and speak about topics with confidence and accuracy.  Other goals of the program include an emphasis on the enjoyment of learning a new language, as well as the development of respect for, and knowledge of French Canadian culture and history .

MUSIC

Many of the units in Music are connected with those in other subjects (ie: Social Studies, Science, Language Arts), but provide a different focus. The Music program is based on the belief that individual students can express themselves in a special way and deserve the best opportunities to do so. The goals for students of the Music program are as follows:

  • To learn the language of music.
  • To learn to sing, play instruments and move to music.
  • To learn to listen to music of good quality.
  • To be able to progress to higher levels of music training.

The aims of the teacher are:

  • To help students find success in music.
  • To have students learn through quality music and example.
  • To have students develop self-discipline and interest in music.

TECHNOLOGY

Skills in technology will be integrated into the regular curriculum.

Teachers will support their classroom programs and attainment of curriculum objectives with many uses of technology in the classroom and the computer lab settings.  Technology at RES presents itself in many forms and teachers at all grade levels are using technology to enhance and compliment their programming.  In an age of constant change with respect to technology. we feel it is important to have technology as a school priority within the school planning process and to continue to help students develop the skills that they will need in the future.
