Peer Tutoring Program
The counsellor along with the Student Support Facilitator matches high school peer tutors with students from TCS. These students offer assistance with study skills and one-to-one instruction and review. They also oversee a study group for grade 6 - 8 students one lunch hour per cycle. (currently on Day 6)
Peer Tutors work in close co-operation with the Guidance Counsellor and Student Support Facilitator who provide initial training and on-going support. Tutorials can take place before or after school, at lunch hour or during a common spare. Most tutorial groups meet twice a week but this may vary depending on the needs of the tutee. Students may request tutorial help for short term or long term contact. Students who have been absent for an extended period of time due to illness or a planned trip can request a tutor to assist them in catching up with the class. Some tutors are also willing to consider additional home tutoring for a reasonable fee. Research has shown that having peers reinforce what has been taught results in greater understanding of content.
